outdoor excursions

The New Jersey Rock Gym and Garden State Rocks are now offering outdoor trips through our Outdoor Excursions program. Classes and trips are open to individuals, families, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Church groups, etc. If you want to climb or venture outdoors, we'll get you there! We can also customize or create a trip for you. Just send an email to info@gardenstaterocks.com or call us at (732)972-3003.

Our head guide is Brian "Muffin" Dellett. He started climbing in 1992 while guiding for the Monmouth County Park System and has traveled and climbed in 17 states, Canada, and France. He holds a certification in Single Pitch Instruction through the American Mountain Guides Association, is a Wilderness First Responder, and a New York State certified guide.

Ice Climbing-

Experience the challenge of climbing a frozen waterfall. Learn the techniques and balance that will have you kicking efficient steps with your crampons and cruising up the vertical water with each swing of the ax. Ice climbing has become very user friendly due to lighter axes and warmer clothing. Two beginner locations will be climbed for a great intro weekend.

Cost:All trips cost $285. Hostel lodging, boots, crampons, snowshoes, skis, climbing equipment and guides are included. Transportation and food are not included. Participants should arrive by 11:00pm Friday night.

Adirondack Combo-

We’ll gear up and head to the summit of a 4000 foot peak and climb Adirondack classic ice climbs. The “Dacks” offer rocky summits above tree line after we exit the Alpine Zone on the hike. The ice climbing lesson is beginner friendly and proper technique will help you get that “good stick” on your first swing.
